It's easy to dismiss the music of this cute, vegan, bare-pated relative of Herman Melville, especially if you don't actually listen to the music and focus instead on his ultra-PC interview style or the manner in which he sold dozens of songs to commercials and film soundtracks back in Y2K. But to do so is to knee-jerkedly miss out on some very fine and innovative music by one of the most influential musicians of the last decade. With the exception of two tracks (one of them the title tune), Go is a best-of from the years that Moby's been on the V2 label, from 1999's breakthrough hit Play onward. But Play--with its uncanny reworking of field recordings with playful beats and ambient textures--remains the artist's finest moment. A full disc of remixes and a smattering of unreleased songs (including a rad new number with Debbie Harry on guest vocals) make this an essential purchase for rabid fans. And, as a judicious selection of Play-era material is included alongside the finest songs from Moby's subsequent albums, 18 and Hotel, this is also the perfect entry point for the more casual fan.

Сборник лучших хитов Моби состоит из 27 композиций разного периода, которые показывают, насколько музыка видоизменялась, и как умела приспосабливаться под временные рамки. На одном диске вы найдете проникновенную и меланхоличную «Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?», безумно танцевальную «Bodyrock» и удивительную «Natural Blues», которая открывает CD. «Pocelain» звучит все так же свежо и модно, как несколько лет назад в фильме «Пляж». Музыка Моби была безумно востребована в кино и рекламе, так, например все композиции из альбома «18» были разобраны производителями для своих коммерческих роликов. С кино Моби тоже связан весьма тесно, помимо работы в «Пляже», он создал свою вариацию «James Bond Theme», которая правда особо не отличается от всех других вариаций. Тревожной «Extreme Ways» не нашлось места на диске, зато скучная «We Are All Made Of Stars» присутствует. С последнего альбома на диске представлены композиции «Lift Me Up» и «Slipping Away». Со «Slipping Away» вообще удивительная история, из безумно однообразной композиции, она превратилась в удивительную и прекрасную, все эти перемены произошли во многом благодаря Милен Фармер, которая чудным образом дополнила трек своим вокалом. Частично, последний альбом «Hotel» проигрывает своим предшественникам из-за вокала (как я уже писал выше), и вследствие чего концентрация уходила не на музыку, а на запись голоса. Альбом не имел столь же значительного коммерческого успеха как «Play» и «18», и можно догадаться почему. На сборнике не обошлось и без новых композиций — «New York, New York», в которой поет Дебби Харри («Blondie»).
Диск «Go — The Very Best Of Moby» рассказывает нам, почему Моби стал синонимом качественной музыки, чилл-аута, танцев, саундтреков и рекламных роликов. Действительно, похоже, не осталось среды, в которой Моби себя не проявил. Если у Вас дома есть диски «18» и «Play», рискну посоветовать обойти стороной релиз «Go — The Very Best Of Moby». Но если Вы предпочитаете иметь собрание синглов на одном диске, тогда это — заслуживающая внимания покупка.
