Adele Laurie Blue Adkins [born 1988 in Tottenham, London], is an English soul-Jazz singer. Adele graduated from BRIT School in Croydon in May 2006. In July 2006, Adele published two songs on the fourth issue of online arts publication PlatformsMagazine.com. Since then Adele has toured playing small UK gigs. She has toured with best friend Jack Penate, as well as Jamie T, Raul Midon, Devendra Banhart, Amos Lee, Keren Ann and the band Exist. Adele went on her first UK headlining tour in October 2007. Adele's first record 'Hometown Glory', in which she sings the praises of Tottenham, was released on October 22th 2007 as a limited edition 7" vinyl on Jamie T's label Pacemaker Recordings, with B Side 'Best For Last'. A member since 12/31/2004, Adele became popular on MySpace as she used the web site as a media focus and test point for songs. She then signed to independent music label XL Recordings, which in January 2008 released her second single 'Chasing Pavements'. 'Chasing Pavements' peaked at No.1 on the iTunes UK Chart.
'19' is Adele's debut album. It was released on January 28th 2008, the week after the lead single, 'Chasing Pavements', was physically released. 'Chasing Pavements' at the time of writing [February 1st 2008] is at No.2 in the UK singles chart.
